Nel 2013 William e Kate lasceranno l'isola e andranno ad abitare a Kensington Palace
Nel 1819 vi nacque la Regina Vittoria, per tanti anni è stata la residenza estiva reale. Dal 1981 in poi gli appartamenti 8 e 9 divennero residenza londinese del principe e della principessa di Galles, Carlo e Diana fino alla morte della principessa Diana, anche dopo la separazione della coppia. Nel 2012, dopo un restauro durato 2 anni e costato circa 15.000,00 di euro, la parte museale è stata riaperta in concomitanza con le Olimpiadi, e ampliata con una mostra sulla regina Vittoria ed una sala dedicata alla Principessa Diana con 5 suoi abiti ed alcune fotografie.
